Dubbed as ‘hipster bubbles’, Pétillant Naturel (or Pet Nat for short) is essentially a natural sparkling wine. The majority are naturally made, meaning that the wine has been made with minimal intervention from the winemaker during production, who instead leaves nature to do its job and develop the carbonation and finished product in the bottle.
Given we've had so many new sparklers through the door recently we've rounded up our 3 favourite bubbles for our brand-new Pet Nat Pack.
First up is Queendom 2022 from Katla Wines is an elegant red sparkling filled with notes of lingonberries, cranberries, and red cherries. A blend of 50% Pinot Gris, 40% Dornfelder and 10% Riesling. All grapes are processed separately. Both Dornfelder and Riesling are direct pressed. The Pinot Gris all bunches undergo a semi-carbonic maceration from 3 weeks. The Riesling is sourced from Lambsheim, Pfalz and the the remaining varieties come from Eckelsheim, Rheinhessen. All grapes are processed separately in stainless steel vessels.

Next up is a brand new pet nat for the Domaine Muller-Koeberle stable! Bigarrure 2020 is made from direct-pressed Riesling which is blended with whole bunch fermented Pinot Gris. On the nose, it's a real aromatic affair almost similar to the smell of mead, a mixture of honey and beeswax, with some heavy green herbs. It's festive, round, greedy, with a slightly unctuous side balanced by perfect acidity and foamy bubbles.

Lastly is When Life Gives You Lemons 2022 from Grandbois Weine, a mouthwatering Pet Nat made from organic and hand-harvested Riesling from a plot named "Honey Mountain" in the Moselle Valley. Notes of lemon skins, honey melon, and dandelions with an off-dry finish. No filtration or added sulfur.
